 TIME TO MAKE A STAND

When the Minutemen assembled on the green at Lexington in the early morning hours of April 19th 1775, their odds in the forthcoming battle were not good.  There were but 70 American patriots facing 1,000 professional soldiers from the most powerful military on earth.  But to a man, each of these citizen soldiers of the American Colonies felt that their cause was just and it was TIME TO MAKE A STAND.

Like those brave American Patriots of 231 years ago who left their children and grandchildren a shinning new nation, I also strongly feel that our cause is just and it is indeed….. TIME TO MAKE A STAND.

It is TIME TO MAKE A STAND for fiscal responsibility.  We now have the largest budget deficit in history.  It will eventually cripple our economy and leave future generations with a huge debt and few choices.   We have no legitimate excuses.  World War II was the largest military mobilization in the history of the nation.  All of America’s citizens paid for it as it was fought.  There were no tax breaks for the wealthy.  Today’s war’s costs are not being paid and are even being hidden outside the federal budget.

It is TIME TO MAKE A STAND for environmental policies that truly protect our land, water, and air.  Producers of anything should be held responsible for cleaning up the mess made while producing their product.  Corporate profits should not be enhanced by excusing polluters from their clean up obligations.  Intelligent life on this planet should not cease because it is too dirty to live on.

It is TIME TO MAKE A STAND for a medical treatment delivery system that allows all Americans to share the benefits of the best health care in the world.  This can begin by providing health care to all of America’s children.  The costs of these mostly preventive efforts would be returned ten fold as these healthier children proceed through life.  No young mother should be forced to choose between having her sick child seen by a doctor, or feeding her family.

It is TIME TO MAKE A STAND for the rights of America’s workers.  Full time jobs should support strong, vibrant middle class families.  Our country’s existence depends on strong, healthy, well educated members of working class families.  The working class of America is under full attack as the number of our fellow citizens living in poverty continues to grow and corporate executives’ pay continues to rise.

Finally, it is TIME TO MAKE A STAND for the men and women in our military.  When they are placed in harms way they should be provided with good equipment and a well prepared plan that is likely to work. American Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, and Airmen , and all citizens,  should not be deceived when told the reasons that justify our young patriots fighting and dying.

Our cause is just and it is TIME TO MAKE A STAND.
