My name is Bert Smith and I’m running for Congress.   I Believe:

Our precious human and financial resources are being totally wasted in Iraq. We need to redeploy from the deadly ambush “kill zone” we now occupy, to a position from which we can better influence the outcome of this tragic conflict.

Our Homeland security is not enhanced by confronting 10,000 radical insurgents 7,000 miles from our shores.
Real security will come from being tough enough and smart enough to “guard our gates” by defending our borders, ports, chemical plants, and nuclear reactors.

Our Social Security system and Private Pensions must be preserved
.  Social Security is a successful part of America.  It brings us together as citizens of this great nation. Pensions are promises to be kept.

Our children do not benefit from “No Child Left Behind.”
The program places undue burdens on states and local school districts and lowers the quality of education for many students.

Our Medicare Drug program, Part D, must be fixed or replaced.
It is possibly the worst piece of legislation ever passed by Congress.  It allows no price negotiation with drug companies and needs serious improvement to help those seniors it was designed to serve.

Our environment must be protected.
No enterprise should be permitted to leave our air, water, and land dirtier than they found it. Life on earth should not cease because it’s too dirty a place to continue to live.

Our veterans continue to need more help from a grateful nation.
An eight percent increase in the Veterans Affairs budget is nowhere near adequate to deal with the physical and mental health needs of those returning from the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.
